National Day for Play
August 6
The National Day of Play in the UK is called Playday and is celebrated annually on the first Wednesday in August. It’s a day dedicated to celebrating children’s right to play and highlighting the importance of play for their well-being and development.
Mid range:
- Provide board games for tenants to play in the on-site cafe/communal areas
- Idea from Metro, Hammersmith – “for National Day for Play we had goodie bags to hand out to tenants. These included things like fidget spinners, bubbles, slime, rubik’s cubes and more! Great for those with kids… and those without! We encouraged tenants to ‘embrace their inner child. All bags were gone in less than an hour!

Top tier:
- You could organise a sports day and even bring the kids along. Beanbag races, welly throwing and hoopla! Giant Jenga competitions with prizes for the winners. Don’t worry if you’re not guaranteed the weather, you could host an indoor games night with cards, darts and pool with pizzas.
